Old Catheral New Cathedral Santa Cruz Monastery Conimbriga Montemor-o-Velho
From train station Coimbra-A it's just a 5-minute walk to the Old Cathedral and Santa Cruz Monastery.

Sample the splendid port wines in Porto (we recommend Solar Vinho do Porto for the best price/quality ratio), but try to save some room to drink in the atmosphere as well. Portugal’s second largest city boasts a gorgeous riverfront region ( Ribeira ), where you can take a river cruise, tour ancient cathedrals or meet the locals at the bar. Climb to the top of the Torre dos Clérigos for the very best panoramic view of the city.

The Torre dos Clérigos is a 5-minute walk from Porto São Bento train station.

Be sure to stay several days in Portugal’s capital city, Lisbon (Lisboa). There’s plenty to see and do. The city is primarily walkable, but trams can help you get around. The Castelo de Sao Jorge is stunning, and rich with history. Check out the splendid fare at Ribeira Nova open market, take in a bit of shopping or a museum. But save some energy for the exciting nightlife. Lisbon comes alive when the sun goes down.

The coast of the Algarve

Use your Eurail pass to spend a few days in paradise. Portugal’s southernmost beaches, the Algarve , give you a choice – hidden beaches, sporty beaches, family beaches – and the weather allows outdoor dining all year round. Take in a game of golf or lounge on some of the world’s most perfect seaside spots. Check out the spectacular dance clubs and cafes. The people are friendly, the sun is constant and the view is unmatched.

The Algarve stretches from Lagos to Tunes to Villa Real de Santo António in southern Portugal. From Lisbon or Porto, the most direct route is via Funcheira to Tunes.
Garrano wild ponies

Nature lovers and outdoor adventurers shouldn’t miss the spectacular Peneda-Gerês National Park (known by locals simply as ‘Gerês’). The only official national park in the entire country, is teeming with wildlife, flora and fauna of all descriptions. See the famous Garrano wild ponies, trek through the massive oak forests, hike the Homem River Valley and climb 300 million year old granite rocks.

The park is in the northern part of Portugal, about a third of a mile from Braga Central Station.

Do not under any circumstances attempt to bring illicit drugs into Australia , including marijuana; this is strictly illegal and punishable with long jail terms of up to life in prison, and customs officers often employ dogs to sniff drugs out of arriving passengers' luggage. Dogs can even tell that you smoked marijuana from the day before you flew to Australia, so you may be held back for some long questioning.

Australia's proximity to means that heroin is a far more commonly used illicit drug than cocaine or crack cocaine. In some areas of large cities you will need to be careful of discarded needles: however these will generally be found in back streets rather than in popular tourist spots.

Firearm ownership is rare in Australia, with strict licensing requirements resulting in gun ownership being typically limited to hunters and farmers in rural areas, as well as sport shooters. Criminal gangs do carry illegal firearms in urban areas, although it is unlikely that travellers will run into them.

It is very difficult to bring firearms into Australia, with a Police permit required for each federal state to be visited before arrival.

Australia has an equal age of consent set at 16 for all states except Tasmania and South Australia where the age is 17. Same sex marriage is legal in Australia, having been passed into law in December 2017 after the nation strongly voted for it (with 61% choosing change) in a national postal survey.

Attitudes to homosexuality are similar to those found in most western countries. Although inner Sydney is one of the most gay-friendly cities in the world, caution is still advisable in conservative rural areas, including rural parts of Queensland and the Northern Territory. Australia has outlawed discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation, and legal recourse may be available should you experience discrimination.

Sydney is Australia's gay capital, and hosts one of the world's most famous gay pride festivals - the Chaser 361 Degrees yZJ4jt
- annually during February and March. The festival culminates in a huge parade through central Sydney which attracts hundreds of thousands of spectators. Rampage Snapper Womens Western Boots RiOuSX
celebrates the "Alice Is Wonderland Festival", a gay and lesbian pride festival in late April/early May. Melbourne has a " Pride March " every year on the first Sunday of February.

"Sunbaker" from 1937 is one of the most widely recognised of all Australian photographs.

Exposure to the sun at Australian latitudes frequently results in sunburn , and Australia has one of the highest skin cancer rates in the world. Getting sunburnt can make you feel feverish and unwell and may take a few days or weeks to heal depending on the severity. It means you can't go back out into the sun until the sunburn fades, so getting sunburnt on the first day of your beach holiday can seriously reduce the fun of your trip. It can take as little as 15 minutes to burn in Australia on a fine summer's day, even in shaded outdoor areas. You should wear sunscreen (SPF 30+), clothing, and a hat to shade the sun.
